A study was conducted to determine the optimum concentration of benzyladenie (BA) and gibberllic acid (GA3) to break the dormancy of gladiolus corms in relation to storage period and to find out the effect of BA and GA3 on growth and development of gladiolus corm and cormels. The effect of GA3 on dormancy breaking was most pronounced in the 100 ppm treatment being 26.93 days while in the water control took 49.60 days. Among different levels of BA, dormancy breaking was comparatively earlier by 29.60 days when treated with 50 BA. Considering storage periods, corms stored for 30 days followed by different growth regulator treatments sprouted 11.63 and 21.24 days earlier than 75 and 90 days stored corms, respectively. Corms treated with 75 ppm GA3 and stored for 90 days produced the maximum percentage of spikes (56.9%) whereas 90 days stored corms treated with 125 ppm BA produced the highest number of plants (2.41) and corms (2.50) hill-1. The corms treated with 100 ppm GA3 and stored for 90 days produced the heaviest (21.50 g and 18.82 g, respectively) and largest (4.46 cm and 4.17 cm, respectively) corms. پرونده مقاله

Nowadays, in many rangelands, due to over grazing, and problems that some plantshave in germination, the rate of forage production is greatly reduced. So to take advantages ofthe benefits of such plants, it is necessary to identify and remove barriers of germination andestablishment of suitable plants. The present study was designed to investigate differenttreatments of breaking dormancy and stimulating seed germination of Astragalus adscendensand Astragalus podolobus and offer the most effective treatment to enhance germination andgrowth rate. The experiment was conducted using Completely Randomized Design (CRD)with four replications. Treatments included hot water for 5 minute, 30% hydrogen peroxide for5 minute, 98% sulfuric acid for 5 minute and chilling at 4°C for 10 days. Data were collectedfor seed germination percentage, Germination Rate (GR) and Mean Germination Time(MGT). Based on the results, treatment with 98% sulfuric acid for 5 min for A. adscendensand hot water for 5 min for A. podolobus were the best treatments to break dormancy andstimulate seed germination, so that the germination percentage increased from 44% to 82% inA. adscendens and from 28% to 62% in A. podolobus. In A. adscendens 98% sulfuric acidreduced the amount of MGT from 8 days for control treatment to 5 days. In A. podolobus hotwater treatment was more effective on MGT reduction and reduced it from 7 to 5 days.Although sulfuric acid had the highest effect in breaking dormancy, but its application in avast scale is not easy, therefore the hot water was suggested as the substitution treatment. پرونده مقاله

To study the effects of chilling on dormancy breaking and the increased germination characteristics of Nepeta (germination percent and speed, seedling length, vigor index, wet and dry weight), a factorial experiment in a completely randomized design with 4 replications چکیده کامل
To study the effects of chilling on dormancy breaking and the increased germination characteristics of Nepeta (germination percent and speed, seedling length, vigor index, wet and dry weight), a factorial experiment in a completely randomized design with 4 replications was implemented in a laboratory in 2014. Factor A was the chilling treatment in three levels (control, one-month and two-month pre-chilling of wet seeds at 4°C) and factor B was related to the seeds of 10 different species of genus Nepeta. After chilling, seeds of control were placed in a germinator for 15 days at 20°C and light-to-dark cycle of 16 hours light (1000 lux) to 8 hours dark. The results showed that chilling treatments had significant effects (p<0.01) on germination percent, germination speed, vigor index and fresh weight, but they had no effects on the seedling length. The chilling effects on germination percent showed that one-month chilling had a positive effect on N. haussknechtii with 40% and N. menthoides with 36.5% and two-month chilling had a positive effect on N. haussknechtii with 43%. The two-month chilling effect on germination speed was positive for most species. Generally, one-month chilling had positive effects on the increased seed vigor index of N. betonicifolia, N. haussknechtii and N. menthoidesand by 20.48%, 25.33% and 17.99%, respectively as compared to that of control treatment and two-month chilling had positive effects on the increased fresh weight of N. cataria, N. haussknechtii , N. pungens, N. menthoides andN. crassifolia. پرونده مقاله
