This study aims at evaluating the utilization of carbonate rocks from the Bampokha (Nikanai Ghar Formation) and Sawaldher (Kashala Formation) areas in different industries. Two varieties from the Nikanai Ghar Formation, known under the trade names as Super-white and Sunny-grey, are selected for petrographic and geochemical analysis to evaluate these as a source of calcite (CaCO3), in chemical industries. Petrographically, both the varieties from Bampokha area, are calcitic marbles that exhibit heteroblastic mosaic texture. Geochemical data coupled with X-ray diffraction and petrographic analysis confirms that the Super-white variety is very high purity marble and hence meets the specifications for different chemical industries such as iron and steel industry, glass manufacturing, flue gas desulphurization, soda ash manufacturing and water purification and effluent treatment. In contrast, the high silica (4.1 wt.%) and low calcite contents (<95 wt.%), render the Sunny-grey unsuitable for chemical industries. The rock from Sawaldher quarry, exhibiting an interlocking mosaic pattern, is calcitic marble. Minor amounts of quartz, muscovite and opaque minerals also occur. Comparing the physico-mechanical properties of the aggregate from Sawaldher marble with time-honoured international standards suggests its suitability in concrete work with ordinary portland cement and asphalt. The concrete mix, designed for Class D2 concrete, has an average 28-days compressive strength value of 518 kg/cm2 and thus well above the minimum targeted strength of 425 kg/cm2 for the mentioned class, and hence further endorses that the aggregate can produce strong concretes. This study also suggests the utilization of the studied carbonate resources on industrial scale. پرونده مقاله

Several regulations and manual have been presented for assessing the resources of rock aggregate for use of rock in breakwaters and shore protection structures. Although there are differences between these regulations, many experiments are required, which are often time-consuming, costly and sometimes difficult to implement in the early stages of the project. One of the fast, easy and low-cost methods is the Petrographic Number (PN) method, which according to rock thin sections, has suggestions for expressing the quality of rock materials. In this paper, the application of the PN method in some of the sources of rock aggregate in Iran has been addressed. For this purpose, 33 samples of carbonate rocks used in marine protection structures on the south coast and inland dams were collected. More than 350 experiments were carried out on these specimens. Also, in order to determine the PN, rock thin sections were prepared and the percentage of the components of the petrography including the type of allochem, porosity, cement and matrix, carbonate and non-carbonate minerals are obtained. Then, in order to evaluate the accuracy and efficiency of the PN method, correlation coefficient and comparison of the results of PN with the results of Iranian regulation has been used. Results have shown that a link between the PN with regulations and testing results. The results indicate a significant correlation between some of the engineering properties of samples with the PN. There is also a good correlation between the PN and the total score of the Iranian manual with R2=0.86. However, a single method cannot replace the set of experiments, but for the early stages of the aggregate resource study, it can provide a proper view of the quality of carbonate rock resources. پرونده مقاله

The metamorphic units of structuring zone of Sanandaj- Sirjan in Aligudarz includes complexes of bedding rocks of precamberian - paleozuic. That contain in them resource kinds of structuring, decorative and façade rocks. The noticeable feature of this area is the proliferation of occurrence of carbonate metamorphic rocks (metamorphic limse) besides granitoid intrusive massives that have granted an excellent situation to this area. By use of desert operation and conducted discovering in the area, investigated bad rock horizons include two kinds of magmatic and carbonates resources. The resources of carbonates rocks that are mostly observed in precamberian-permian units include lime and dolomite marble (known as crystal and rock bedding) and magmatic rocks resources of granite- granitoides kinds. In addition to this, the constructing geology investigation of the area under study indicates two dominant general processes of split in south - eastern - north - western and south - western - north - eastern. پرونده مقاله
