In many parts of Iran high light intensities during summer can induce stress in cut flower production under open field and greenhouse conditions. Despite roses prefer sunny places for optimum growth, but in practice some levels of rough shading is applied in greenhouse production to improve the quality of cut flowers. So, it is useful to find the light intensities under which different rose cultivars produce optimum yield with acceptable market quality. In present study, different light intensities were applied for two rose cultivars of ‘Red One’ and ‘Gulmira’, by shading levels of 1200 (without shading as control), 640, 520 and 240 µmol m-2 s-1, using green plastic nets. The result showed that leaf protein concentration, peroxidase activity, petal anthocyanin concentration and carbohydrate levels were significantly different among shade treatments, as the highest protein concentration was observed in 640 µmolm-2 s-1. The highest concentration of anthocyanin of petals was observed in ʻRed Oneʼ under 520 µmolm-2 s-1. Furthermore, in ʻGulmiraʼ the highest amount of anthocynin was in 520 µmol m-2 s-1, but this was not statistically significant compared to other shading treatments. The highest amount of leaf carbohydrate was in 520 µmol m-2 s-1. The results indicate that shading up to a light intensity of 520 µmol m-2 s-1 is beneficial for quality improvement of these rose cultivars when light intensity is high. پرونده مقاله

Plant growth regulators (PGRs) have an important role in callus induction and organogenesis of plant explants cultured in vitro conditions. Callus has a proper potential for plant regeneration through indirect organogenesis and embryogenesis as well suspension culture, genetic transformation and production of secondary metabolites. In current experiment, leaf explants of Petunia × hybrida F1 were cultured on basal Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with different concentrations of N6-benzyladenine (BA) (0.25, 0.50 and 1.00 mg l−1) and ɑ-naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) (0.10, 0.20 and 0.30 mg l−1). The maximum fresh weight (5.16 g), dry weight (0.31 g) and volume of callus (24.50 cm3) was obtained in the medium containing 1.00 mg l−1 BA in combination with 0.30 mg l−1 NAA. Leaf explants did not produce callus in medium without PGRs. Plantlets were produced on all callus grown on the media containing PGRs. The most plantlets number was produced on callus induced on medium enriched with 1.00 mg l−1 BA in combination with 0.30 mg l−1 NAA. The plantlets regenerated in vitro with well-developed shoots and roots were successfully established in pots containing peat and perlite (1:1) and grown in a greenhouse within 4 weeks with a 100% survival rate. The regenerated plants were morphologically identical with mother plants and did not show any detectable phenotypic variation. پرونده مقاله

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of hydropriming on seed germination and seedling growth of five different flower seed species (Antirrhinum, Dahlia, Impatiens, Salvia and Zinnia). Hydropriming (20oC, 24 h), surface dried or dried back afterwards, was found to increase germination percentage, seedling emergence and fresh and dry weight. In all species, the maximum advantage in germination and emergence was obtained in those that were surface dried. The maximum benefit was observed in Antirrhinum and Dahlia. In these two species, surface dried seeds were 18% and 17% superior in terms of germination, and 20% and 13% superior in terms of seedling emergence compared to the control, respectively. For the other three species, although there was a positive effect, it was less pronounced. It was concluded that hydropriming can be used to enhance seedling quality in flower seeds. پرونده مقاله

Ploidy level is one of important factors for plant breeders; therefore models that can predict it are very practical. To estimate of ploidy levels in some species, hybrids and cultivars of Rosa, dimensions of over 500 pollens include pollen length, width and area measured at ABRII. The calculations were carried out in several stages. First, Ploidy levels were regressed with pollen dimensions, after that, pollen area was regressed with pollen length and width. Finally the best models from previous step were tested to estimate of pollen level. In the present study, although a highly positive correlation (r2 ≥0.80, except for 2x) was obtained between pollen length and pollen area, but to predict of ploidy level, the correlation between it and pollen demotions was very weak (r2 ≥0.24). Results of test the best models (with highest r2 and lowest SES) for estimating of ploidy level, despite could be used, but because of the strong correlation among them, were not reliable. پرونده مقاله

In order to evaluate the effect of medium and spraying calcium nano-fertilizer on quality of cut gerbera flowers, an experiment was conducted as factorial in completely randomized design with 7 media and 3 calcium nano-fertilizer concentrations with 3 replications. The media included cocopeat + perlite (1:1), peat moss + perlite (1:1), mushroom compost + perlite (1:1), peat moss + cocopeat + perlite (1:1:2), mushroom compost + peat moss + perlite (1:1:2), mushroom compost + cocopeat + perlite (1:1:2) and mushroom compost alone. The concentrations of calcium nano-fertilizer were 0, 1 and 2 mgL-1. Results demonstrated that different media had significant influence on flower diameter, neck flower diameter and vase life. The highest diameter of flower and neck flower were observed in peat + perlite (1:1), the highest flower fresh weight in cocopeat + mushroom compost + perlite (1:1:2) and the greatest vase life in peat + cocopeat + perlite (1:1:2) media. Calcium nano-fertilizer had a significant effect on vase life and flower quality, so that vase life was increased by enhancing the concentration of calcium nano-fertilizer. In interactions between medium and nano-calcium fertilizer, the highest flower number was observed in peat + mushroom compost + perlite (1:1:2) medium without nano-calcium fertilizer, and the greatest anthocyanin was related to peat + cocopeat + perlite (1:1:2) medium without nano-calcium fertilizer. There was no significant interaction in other traits. پرونده مقاله
