Objective: This research analyzes the social factors affecting the improvement of Iran's international image through the use of sports capacities.
Methodology: The method of this research is a sequential mixed type (qualitative-quantitative) and includes two stages. In the qualitative stage, using the meta-combination method, the social components effective on improving the international image were extracted from the research results available in the reliable scientific databases. Then, to identify the indicators related to these components, interviews were conducted with 12 experts and experts in different fields of sports and international relations. In the quantitative stage, 66 experts were examined to rank the identified components.
Results: After analyzing the content of the interviews, 9 main axes were identified as social factors affecting the improvement of Iran's international image through sports. These axes include international branding and prestige, cultural development, political development, economic development, exit from isolation, peace and friendship, national unity and integration, media interactions and development of intelligent power. Also, 34 terms were extracted and prioritized for the identified components.
Conclusion: In order to improve the international image of Iran, it is suggested that officials and managers prioritize sports development programs at the international level and focus on developing and hosting sports competitions at regional and international levels.
