Urban heat islands (UHI) reflect the amount of temperature difference observed between cities and their surrounding areas. The current research aims to identify the heat island phenomenon in two cities, Tehran with an industrial business background and Varamin, which is growing with an agricultural background. The aim is to identify the vulnerability of the society to the effects of the heat island and to try to adapt the society related to the heat island. The current research used a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods. Data analysis was done using SPSS, EXCEL, ENVI and ARCGIS software. The tool for collecting information is a structured questionnaire based on the LVI index and according to the characteristics of the study areas. The validity of the questionnaire was verified with the help of a panel of experts, and the reliability of the present questionnaire was confirmed using Kornbach's alpha method. The statistical data includes 99 heads of households in three districts in Tehran and two districts in Varamin. The results showed that Tehran is more vulnerable than Varamin. The first part of this research is dedicated to the investigation and identification of the urban heat island, which was investigated using the field temperature measurement data and satellite images. The results showed that urban heat accumulation exists in both cities, but Tehran is more intense. The thermal island in Tehran was quite clear compared to Varamin on clear and sunny days. On cloudy days, the temperature difference between the regions was small, and also on days with wind, Tehran had a higher night temperature than Varamin, which is related to the high density and greater extent of this city. The second part of this research is based on the LVI index to evaluate the vulnerability of the urban heat island. The average level of vulnerability in Varamin is due to the low level of community awareness of temperature changes and its effects, but there was a sign of adaptation, which is in the form of natural adaptation. Varamin also has a better situation than Tehran in terms of interaction and relations. Tehran is facing an increase in temperature as well as a low adaptation level, which is one of the reasons for urban density. Manuscript profile

2 - Analyzing of Environmental Effects Caused by the Increase in High-Rise Construction in Iranian Metropolises (Case Study: Tabriz Metropolis)

The rapid increase in population and the lack of suitable land for development, and on the other hand, the lack of clarity of urban development policies in macro and local dimensions, have caused temporary and local solutions such as the creation of high-rise buildings to be proposed. Despite the increase in urban land per capita, these buildings have caused negative effects in different dimensions due to the lack of proper planning and design. Considering the importance of the subject, the aim of the current research is to investigate the physical-environmental consequences by the increase in high-rise construction in Tabriz metropolis and to provide suggestions for the construction of future buildings. The research method in the current research is mixed (combination of quantitative-qualitative methods) with an applied purpose and a descriptive-analytical nature, in order to analyze the information, structural equation modeling was used in Amos software. The statistical population of the research includes the citizens of regions 1, 2 and 5 of Tabriz, that is, the residents around Aftab Towers in Valiasr (region 1), Asman towers in El Goli (region 2) and Mehr towers in Roshdieh (region 5), which is in line with determining the volume Cochran's sampling method was used and the sample size was determined to be 384 people. The findings of the research show that the most important physical-environmental consequences caused by high-rise construction in Tabriz metropolis are related to air pollution components, surrounding functions and uses, and visual effects. Also, among the sub-components, the most important consequences are related to reducing the capacity of the road network, increasing air pollution, imposing additional pressure and load on urban facilities and services, and visual disruption, for which the value of the structural model is 0.91, 0.85, 0.77 and 0.71 respectively. High-rise building and spatial developmental strategy in height as a result of population growth and the lack of suitable land for the building of recent decades have increased particularly in large cities. In Ilam, like most cities in Iran, the most important political and commercial centers are included in the center of this old city. The central part of the urban structure and distribution have always attracted travelers because of large amount of attractions. In this study, the functional effects of the building density on the transportation network in central context of Ilam have been analyzed. This study using developmental-functional approach and a combination of research methods (descriptive, analytical and field study) investigates this issue in Ilam. For analysis of the findings Visio, Crafer, and ArcGis software have been used coupled with entropy technique. The results of the research revealed the weaknesses in access, the inappropriate structure of the urban transportation network, the spatial position of utilization, the excessive building density in the old urban texture, the failure of the public transportation system, and the inconsistency of pedestrian traffic and vehicles in the urban structures in Ilam.
