  The history of lexicography in Iran goes back to pre-Islamic era and this tradition has been one of the most obvious sicientific and literary branches to protect Persian language and literature. The present article is concisely reviewing the history of lexicography in Iran as well as having a critic look at the transitions and changes resulting from the ancientness of this science and other issues such as policy making, impact of the foreign terminology and culture, overflowing of scientific and technical terminology, different grammatical structures, word-coinage system and other issues.  Manuscript profile

  In the domain of Persian language lexicography is a significant category.  The 10tht and 11thh (AH) centuries were the golden period when great lexicographers, especially in India, composed and compiled dictionaries. One of those dictionaries is Abd-al-Rahim Ben Ahmad’s Kašf al-Loghāt wa’l-Estelāhāt (Revealing [of the meaning] of words and terminology). A great Sufi, Abd-al-Rahim Ben Ahmad compiled his book in 673 chapters before 1017 (AH), most probably around the middle of the 16thh century. It uses a simple and scientific language and contains information in various subjects. This article first gives a brief history of lexicography and then reviews the life style and ideas of Abd-al-Rahim to study the structure, style and linguistic features of his dictionary.   Manuscript profile

    Lack of support  of Safavid court of writers and artists made them to migrate to the Indian subcontinent. Gurkanis'(India's Mogul emperorship) warm welcome of Persian writers increased these migrations.The effect of Persian culture and language which was the official language of court contributed to the flourishing of  all literary genres especially lexicography  in this era. Lexicography can be categorized into three periods: first pre Moguls(7-9 century A.H.);second Mogul's era(10-13 century  A.H.); third post Moguls(14 century A.H.). During the first period lexicographers relied merely on gathering poetic terms and disregarded vernacular or written language. Therefore, dictionaries written in this period are not deemed as comprehensive. The most serious works concerning lexicography are written  during the second period, i.e. Mogul's emperorship. The most accomplished works in this genre –which is the subject of this paper-belong to this period. The third or recent period refers to the dominance of Britain over the continent and the disempowering of Moguls, a period in which the colonizers did their best to eliminate Persian language and substitute English language.   The culture of "Zobdatol Favayed" written by the tenth-century Afghan author Shirkhan Soor is one of the valuable but unknown and unknown cultures of the age of Indian lexicography, which despite its great value, has not received much attention from scholars and scholars. In this monolingual encyclopedic dictionary, Shir Khan Sour has explained about twenty thousand words, compositions and terms in Persian to Persian. Apart from the above lexical range and detailed scope of this work, in this culture, other basic features such as the use of known and unknown cultures of the past and the present, attention to the words and terms of masterpieces of Persian poetry, providing abundant Persian poetic evidence and Arabic, explanation of verses, the problem of Persian literature texts and quotations of commentators in the description of verses, translation of Arabic evidences, critical view of Persian cultures, etc. can be seen that has given a good comprehensiveness to this culture. Although the diversity of the interventions of this culture is its strong point, but sometimes it has caused mistakes while explaining the interventions, and the elimination of these mistakes requires a critical look at correcting this culture. Due to the great importance and neglect of this culture, the authors are correcting this precious work and will try to provide a worthy correction of this anonymous Persian language work soon with a critical look.
