Nowadays the portfolio of financial assets play an important role in the creation of new liquidity of the assets that its fund return requires to perform the obligations of debtors over time. But using these financial tools necessary to pay special attention to the issue of risk in financial assets because if there is any risk in assets it will produce greater effects after becoming securities. In the event of a crisis in financial assets, the relevant securities create irreparable damage to its owner’s. The problem stems from the fact that one of the main purposes of portfolio is diversification, then the aim of risk management is selecting the securities with low correlation to reduce portfolio volatility. However, the most important impact of stressful events is that the correlations that existed under normal conditions change and risk managers face a new correlations that will lead to unexpected concentration risk. Also, the banks pay loans to different industries and in varies currencies and they diversify their portfolio in this way. However, in times of stress, all these industries are more likely to default on their debt, and consequently ineffective to provide diversification. The aim of this paper is introducing stress test as one of risk management instruments that it examine the effects of risk assets, especially in critical situations then it has special application in securitization process assessment. Financial networks are potential channels for the propagation of crises shocks which are considered as the main factor for systematic stability. The term stress test refers to different techniques and methods used to assess the impact of events or combinations of events, which may occur normally for business units. The methodology of this research is based on historical cognitive method through library method and aimed at knowledge development using scientific resources such as books and articles. In this study, after a short review on the application of stress tests in different researches, we will study the different aspects of the application of stress tests, then we deal with the steps to apply stress tests in risk management using different charts and diagrams. Then we will introduce variety of different methods to run stress tests and will explain the advantages and disadvantages of stress tests, and finally we will offer some recommendations regarding the implementation of this method.   Manuscript profile

There is significant difference in the behavior of risk factors in the general economic conditions and in crisis situations (eg financial crises). Under normal conditions, the behavior of risk factors can be easier to predict because their behavior does not change in the short to medium term noticeably. Therefore, the behavior in the future can be predicted from past performance. However, in critical situations, the behavior of risk factors is very unpredictable and past behavior doesn’t help predict future behavior. Hence we need another tool to measure risk as "stress test". Stress tests can be done from the micro and macro perspective. Micro perspective means that each of the financial institutions, especially banks may use this method for their risk management. And macro perspective means that the supervisory authorities on financial institutions can use this method to evaluate the risk of the financial system and to regulate the policies. As regard that research’s approach is using of macro stress testing as a tool for risk management in crisis situations, initially we will investigate of the using the stress test in the risk management and implementation in the micro level will be stated briefly, then we will discussed why and how the design and implementation of stress testing at macro perspective and its usage in supervisory and regulatory perspective. Finally a real example of the use of stress testing at the macro level by the supervisory authorities on financial institutions in Australia in 2005 will be explain. Manuscript profile
