Biosurfactants are surface-active compounds synthesized by a wide variety of microorganisms. They are molecules that have both hydrophobic and hydrophilic domains and are capable of lowering the surface tension and the interfacial tension of the growth medium. They are nontoxic biomolecules that are biodegradable. Halotolerant actinomycetes can isolate from saline soil and lake with a high concentration of sodium chloride like qom saline lake. Bacteria need to adapt when are under extreme condition like salinity, If adaptation to the environment is due to metabolic changes, the production of new bioactive compounds as biosurfactants may be expected. In this research, 100 actinomycete species isolated from qom saline lake which 15 isolate among them were able to tolerate high salt concentrations, up to approximately 10% of NaCl, these 15 halotolerant actinomycetes were examined for biosurfactant production by common tests ( growth on the hydrophobic resources, hemolysis of erythrocytes, oil spreading test, surface tention measurement and etc.) . according to the results 8 actinomycete isolates were selected as biosurfactant producer. Results show that the species 9 has the best potential production.. Manuscript profile
