        Glioblastoma multiforme (also called glioblastoma, GBM, or grade 4 astrocytoma) is uncommon cancer which accounts for more than half of the primary malignant brain tumors diagnosed. The study of the expression of genes involved in the glioblastoma can be effective in early detection, so we discussed the clinical significance and biological role of the SMC4 gene transcript in glioblastoma cancer, which is unknown. Before treatment, 50 samples of healthy tissue margin from a glioblastoma tumor were taken as a control group, and 50 samples of glioblastoma tissue were acquired as a patient group. We did RNA extraction and cDNA synthesis. qRT-PCR was used to determine SMC4 expression levels. As an internal control, ACTB was employed. Statistical analysis was performed by GraphPad Prism v.8.0.1. ROC curve was plotted.Overexpression of SMC4 (P<0.0001) in glioblastoma tissue samples was significant compared to healthy tumor margin tissue. While in age (P<0.7507) and sex (P<0.2270) no significant expression was observed. Increased expression of SMC4 gene can play an important role in the glioblastoma cancer. Our work provides a new perspective on SMC4 gene transcription with respect to ROC curve analysis as a biomarker, but needs further study.  Manuscript profile
