An experiment was conducted to study the effects of perlite onmorphology of villi in the small intestine of male broilers. The experimental design wasarranged as randomized complete bocks in 4 * 2 factorial arrangement of treatment. 120 malebroilers of Ross commercial hybrid (Ross 308) was designated into 2 groups (control andtreatment). 3 replicates of 20 birds were assigned to each treatment. Control treatments were fedbase diet and treatment with the same base diet plus 2% perlite.Animals were slaughtered and different segments of small intestine(at1,10,30,50,70 and 90% oftotal length the small intestine) were taken from each replicates (N=2). Morphology of villi wasmeasured and recorded. Data were analyzed by SAS (P<0.05).Results: As intake of perlite significantly changed in the morphological of villi at weeks andsites of the small intestine of the broiler chicks (P<0.05), these data suggested that perliteadministration improves fat digestion and absorption in broiler chicks. As morphological of villi is responsible for digestion and absorption in the small intestine and asthe effect of perlite administration in the diet of broilers on this morphological of villi had notbeen investigated the fallowing work had been designed and performed. The expanded perlite has high surface area (3000cm2/gr) and high porosity (>90%). However expanded perlite be ability adsorb oil spill and to form clog. It seems that if the emulsifier without expanded perlite adds to water-oil mixture, emulsifier as a pollutant enters to sea medium. The expanded perlite were modified by emulsifier can emulsify oil spill that is 35 times heavier than is own weight, so adsorbed oil with expanded perlite were modified can with use Mechanical instrument as booms and pumps collected of surface sea water. Bedding materials, including soilless beds, perlite, coco peat and wood chips may affect crop quality and quantity. Thus, suitable bedding material should be used. Because, cost of these materials is high in strawberry production local substrate with low cost can be used. A greenhouse strawberry cultivar (Fragaria ananassa cv. European) trial was performed at research greenhouse of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad in cropping season of 2004-2005. The experimental design was complete randomize block with four replication. The treatments were (1) Perlite (2-5 mm), (2) Coco peat (3) Wood chips and (4) Wood chips and Perlite (1:1 W). In general, plants grown in Coco peat substrate improved vegetative growth parameters like dry and fresh weight (gp-1), chlorophyll index and number of leaves (np-1). While, the effect of perlite on yield (gp-1) and number of fruit (np-1) were not significant as compared with wood chips (p≥0.5), and even wood chips improved total soluble solids (TSS). On the other hand mixed wood chips and perlite, as bedding material did not have promising effect on vegetative and reproductive growth of strawberry. Manuscript profile -

The hydroponic is a method which organic or inorganic substrates are used for plant cultivation. In order to investigate the effect of different growing media on antioxidant properties of lemon balm (Melissa officinalis), an experiment was done based on completely randomized design using 11 treatments with three replications at Experimental Greenhouse of Urmia University. Growing media tested were: perlite substrate with grads: <0.5, 0.5-1 ,1-1.5 ,1.5-2 and >2 mm as 100% and mixed grades of perlite with peat moss (50:50) and pure peat moss (100% V). The total phenolic content, total flavonoid, and antioxidant activity were measured by using folin ciocalteu reagent, aluminum chloride, and 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) methods respectively. The results showed that significant differences were observed the measured parameters in inorganic (perlite with different sizes), organic (peat most), and mixture of organic and inorganic substrates. The highest content of total phenol (0.63mg GAA/100g), total flavonoid (0.07 mg Q/100g), total anthocyanin (1.7 mg/gdw), superoxide radical scavenging activity (55.3%) and radical scavenging activity DPPH (67.8%) were observed in pure peat moss medium, while the lowest nitric oxide radical scavenging activity (67%) was in peat moss medium. In conclusion different culture media which possess different physical and chemical characteristics, can affect the plant antioxidant properties. According to the results, peat moss substrate increased the antioxidant properties of lemon balm compared to other culture media Manuscript profile -

Porous concrete is an especial type of highly pervious concrete, compatible with the environment, and could be used a method to increase surface infiltrate and reduce urban runoff. In the present experimental research, to improve the performance of this type of concrete, effect of adding lightweight pumice and perlite (0.6-1.2 mm), and adding 10% fine grains to the samples, was investigated. In this respect, the effective parameters for using porous concrete in urban runoff system, such as compression strength, hydraulic conductivity and porosity of the samples were measured. Analysis of experimental results was performed by using SAS 9.4 software at 95% confidence level. Results showed that adding fine grains to porous concrete increases compression strength and reduces hydraulic conductivity and porosity. Addition of lightweight pumice increases compression strength and reduces hydraulic conductivity and porosity of porous concrete. But, lightweight perlite reduced all three parameters of hydraulic conductivity, porosity and compression strength. In general, lightweight pumice, which has higher density and more pore space in its structure with respect to perlite, had better performance. Manuscript profile -

Ficus benjamina was stock rooted and grown in a peat consisting perlite (2: 1 v/v) (P: Pe), zeolite (10, 20, 30 and 40 v/v %, two sizes 0.5-3 mm and 3-8 mm) instead of peat in P: Pe (2: 1 v/v) media. Ficus benjaminawas grown in the substituted media for 10 month under fiberglass cover greenhouse, with 4 pots for each treatment. The control consisted of P: Pe alone without zeolite. The results showed that the substitution of 10-30 v/v % zeolites in control did not result in significant difference (p £ 0.05) in shoot and leaf fresh weight, shoot and leaf dry weight, shoot dry weight, leaf dry weight in comparison to control. Instead, substitution of 10-40 v/v % zeolites instead of peat significantly increased media electrical conductivity (EC). There were no positive correlations betweenFicus benjamina growth and the amounts of mineral-N in potting mixtures or concentration of nitrogen in leaves of plant. Zeolite particle size significantly increased the pH in comparison with the control. With Regard to the high relative price of peat with respect to natural zeolite, zeolite substitution in an amount of 10-30 vol. % is economically preferred. Manuscript profile -

Plant height, number of seeds per row, ear diameter, 1000 grain weight, grain yield, biological yield and harvest index were measured at physiological harvesting time. Application of three levels of perlite, vermicompost and Aquasorb increased the growth indices and yield levels. In this study, consumption of perlite and Aquasorb with irrigation intervals of 40 mm evaporation from pan was more effective than yield and yield components than vermicompost treatment. Vermicompost consumption with irrigation interval of 40 ml evaporation from pan increased yield. Therefore, the use of perlite and Aquasorb polymers in order to achieve optimal yield in maize 678 is recommended under drought stress conditions Manuscript profile -

Eight types of potting media including perlite, perlite + vermiculite (1:1 v:v), perlite + peat moss (1:1 v:v), soil + perlite (1:1 v:v), perlite + soil + cow manure compost (4:3:3 v:v), perlite + soil + vermicompost (4:3:3 v:v:v), field soil and perlite + peat moss as conventional nutrient solution and planting media used in greenhouse (Control). During the growing season, the leaf area, plant height, stem basal diameter, tuber fresh and dry weight, tuber specific weight and tuber number per plant were measured. Analysis of variance showed significant differences between treatments in leaf area index, plant height, tuber number per plant and stem basal diameter. Growth and production of minituber were low in soil and soil containing medium. Therefore, the productivity of local soil was not corrected by any soil amendments. Soil containing medium had the highest bulk and particle density, EC and pH and the lowest porosity then produced the lowest number of tubers and fresh and dry weight of tubers. The highest number of tubers was produced in perlit + peat moss treatment. The maximum amounts of plant height were recorded in soil + perlite + compost treatments. The perlite + peat moss medium (1:1 v:v) is recommended for production of potato minitubers. Manuscript profile
