Purpose: This research examined library anxiety among students of Literature and Humanities college in Qom University and compared it in the following categories: Gender, education level (graduate and post-graduate), major (LIS and non-LIS) and the use and the lack of library use  prior to entering the university. Method: The sample included  225 students. The research instrument was a refined version of the Bostick's original library anxiety scale including 35 statements. Frequency distribution and independent t-test were used in order to analyze the data. Findings: Findings indicated that the total mean of library anxiety in the researched group was 88.76. The results of the independent t-test showed that library anxiety scores were higher in women than men students and in the non-LIS major students were significantly higher than in LIS. However, the mean anxiety scores were not significantly different in students who had benefitted the library prior to entering the university and those who had not. There was no significant difference in the varios educational levels. Furthermore, this significance was only associated with physical barriers and no significant difference was reported in other factors affecting the library anxiety. Conclusion: Studying library anxiety is important because the students need to use the library for selecting research subjects, and gathering data for doing their studies and conducting their dissertations. Library anxiety can have negative effect on their educational performance and quantity and quality of their scientific productions. Manuscript profile

Proper use of the library, especially academic libraries plays an important role in improving the quality of education and research. For some students, a university library is considered as a safe place to do research and study, but to some others these places provide some signs of anxiety. This research investigates the relationship between self-efficacy perception and library anxiety in M.A. students of Kharazmi University. The research method is descriptive survey. The study population consists of all M.A. students of Kharazmi University Out of which 335 individuals were randomly selected as samples; out of this number, 269 questionnaires were returned. For data collection, two questionnaires were used: For data collection, two questionnaires were used: Schwarzer self-efficacy questionnaire and Bostick's Library Anxiety Scale. The self-efficacy condition of the study population was satisfying. The library anxiety in the study population was less than average. The library anxiety was significantly high in females than in males (P< 0/02) and in M.A. students than in PhD students (P< 0/001). At the same time, self-efficacy was significantly higher in PhD students than M.A. students (P< 0/01). Levels of self-efficacy and library anxiety, have negative and significant relationship; Means that with an increase in self-efficacy of M.A. students, the library anxiety reduces. Manuscript profile

Purpose: The present study was performed with the aim of evaluation of the library anxiety level of graduate students in Shiraz University. Methodology: The research population consisted of 5700 students from Shiraz University graduate students, 229 students (139 girls and 90 boys). Sampling method was stratified. To assess the level of library anxiety, Multidimensional Model of Van Kampen (2003) was used. Data were analyzed with descriptive and inferential statistics, and t-test and analysis of variance. Findings: The research findings related to the extent of students anxiety by the four level of anxiety show that much larger population of subjects have high anxiety. Also, between the library anxiety with the use of the library and the aim of using library is significant differences. But between the library anxiety and the average time of presence in the library isn't significant difference. Evaluation of the anxiety in the different colleges showed that students of economic college have the highest level of anxiety and student of Electricity College have the less anxiety. Conclusion: It seems that library anxiety is a serious problem among graduate students of Shiraz University who need to use the library and information recourses. Manuscript profile

The purpose of the present study is to investigate the library anxiety among the students of Rehabilitation School of Iran University of Medical Sciences. The research method is survey and 211 students have participated in the study. The Bostick's library anxiety scale in the form of a researcher-made 39-item questionnaire was used as the instrument of data collection. The findings revealed that the library anxiety of the students is at average level. The library anxiety also was at average level in terms of barriers with staff, affective barriers, library knowledge, comfort with the library and mechanical barriers, but the anxiety in terms of mechanical barriers was at higher level than the other indicators. The findings of the study showed no significant difference in the library anxiety based on the educational level. Only in the indicators of the mechanical barriers, the library anxiety of males was higher than females. The average level of library anxiety among the students is an important finding which needs the librarians' effort for its reduction.   Manuscript profile

Purpose: This research aims to investigate the relationship between sexuality and Library Anxiety of Bushehr government-sponsored universities students. Methodology: In this descriptive study which is of correlation type, a total of 700 students of Bushehr University of Medical Sciences (Ministry of Health and Medical Education) and Persian Gulf University (Ministry of Science, Research and Technology) were selected through Stratified random sampling. All data were collected by using normalized Questionnaire of Library Anxiety and analyzed using SPSS. In an analytical statistics part some various tests like T-test, an independent T test, mann-whitney test, Pearson correlation test, and regression test were used. Findings: The findings showed that students of the two universities have lower library anxiety than average levels (91.73) and this anxiety is Just in the component "mechanical factors" above average. Comparing male and female students showed that at a significant level of 0.97 there is no difference between them in library anxiety. However, comparing the components, male and female students were significantly different in the component of "factors from interacting with librarians. Conclusion: Also, according to sexual divisions we can conclude that there is no significant difference between the total scores of male and female students in Library Anxiety. However, findings show that Male and female students are significantly different only in "factors from interacting with librarians . Manuscript profile

Objective:   This study aims to investigate the library anxiety of students, and the effect of library skills instruction and library tours on decreasing their library anxiety. Methodology: The population of study- which conducted using the “pre test-post test” experimental method- was 75 first year students at the University of Malaya, a research-intensive university in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. First, the levels of students’ library anxiety were investigated using a revised version of the Bostick’s Library Anxiety Scale. Then, study participants were divided into three groups: first group participated in educational library skills instruction sessions; second group participated in library tours without attending in library skills instruction sessions; and students in the third group neither participated in library skills instruction sessions nor library tours. Findings: The levels of participant’s library anxiety were investigated using the same instrument after two weeks. Findings of the study revealed that although there were no statistically significant differences between pre-test of three groups, the levels of library anxiety among the students in the second group were statistically significantly decreased. On the other hand, students in the second group reported to have experienced lower levels of library anxiety after participation in library skills instruction sessions, but not at a statistically significant level.                         Manuscript profile

Abstract Objective:The current study examines the rate of library anxiety among students of Islamic Azad University, North Tehran Branch, in academic year 2010–2011 and the ways to reduce it. Methodology:The research method was a descriptive survey. In order to examine library anxiety,Bostick’s Library Anxiety Scale was used, and to examine the research variables, inferential statistics was used. Leven test was used for variance equations, while T-test was used to compare the averages of two independent variables, and ANOVA test was used for the equality of average of one variable in several independent groups. After sampling with simple random method from among 4589 freshmen, the researchers selected 345 male and female students in graduate and undergraduate program. Findings: The findings of reviewing gender differences showed that library anxiety was more prevalent among women than among men, which were 2.996 and 2.8116 respectively; however, in terms of age and level of familiarity with computer, they had the same level of anxiety. Also, educational level (graduate or undergraduate) had no effect on library anxiety. However, there could be seen more anxiety in closed shelf than in open library systems (2.9892 and 2.8580 respectively) and more anxiety in index card than in computerized systems (3.0049 and 2.8114 respectively). The highest average of anxiety was found in Technical-Engineering College and Chemistry College, while the lowest level of anxiety was found in Humanities College and Marine Techniques and Sciences College. Students’ membership in a library before entering university did not have any effect on their library anxiety. Conclusion: Based on the research findings and the library anxiety score (defined in this study), it was found that among the freshmen students of Islamic Azad University, North Tehran Branch, who entered university in the academic year 2010–2011 in both graduate and undergraduate program, the library anxiety was at the intermediate level.     Manuscript profile
