        The present research aims at studying on the effectiveness of group counseling using Eliss’s rational – emotive behavior therapy method on promotion of public health of firefighting society; In order to determine the effectiveness of group counseling the pre-test and post-test plans were used for control group. The statistical society in this research was the firefighting staff of district 4 of Municipality of Tehran which was chosen with the sample volume of 60 persons by multistage cluster random sampling method and these people were randomly divided and chosen into two groups including 29 each and control group to the amount of 31. The educational plan was taught to the test group in 7 sessions. The tool utilized in this plan was the 28-GHQ public health test. To analyze the research data, the covariance test was used for testing the research hypothesis, analysis of research hypothesis showed: Group counseling was effective in promotion of public health of firefighting staff with Eliss’s rational– emotive approach. This Also has positive effects on the symptoms of anxiety and disorder in sleeping of the firefighters. Group counseling with Eliss’s rational – emotive approach has positive influenced on physical condition of the firefighters. Also, it has improvement of social functioning of firefighters increasingly. Group counseling with Eliss’s rational – emotive approach has affected the improvement of depression of firefighting staff and comparing the obtained results in pre-test and post-test stages indicates the effect of Eliss’s rational – emotive approach on promotion of public health of firefighting staff.
