Background and Objective: In order to purify drinking water, we usually use different water treatment units which one of them is filtration. Today multi media and specially two media filtration one usual units in developed countries but unfortunately in Iran we still use the single media filtration. In order to develop these types of media in Iran we perforemed this research. The purpose of this study is to investigate new media from waste material for alternative use in Sand – Anthracite media beds. Method: This study is the results from one of the experiential research in pilot scale. All of the experiments were done according to AWWA B 100 standard method and also different parameters including turbidity, running time were considered. Findings: Results showed average turbidity removal efficiency of three media Sand – Anthracite, Basalt – Anthracite, Granite – Anthracite are 91.4, 92.1, 92.9 respectively and best height of two media beds is 85 cm, and maximum running time belongs to Granite – Anthracite bed. Discussion and Conclusion: Performance of Basalt material is very similar to Sand from hardness and solubility in acid points. So we suggest that waste Granite and Basalt are very good substitution for sand in water treatment industries.   Manuscript profile

Under study pluton in view of magmatic series is calk-alkaline , medium to high K and in viewof alumina saturation index is meta-alumine nature .Field , geology , petrography and geochemical study indicatethat these granitoids are High temperature magnetite I-type or Cordiller I- type granitoids . Granite process industries generate a large amount of wastes, which pollute and damage the environment. Thiswork aims to characterize and evaluate the possibilities of using the granite sawing wastes in ceramic industry.Granite wastes in the form of sludge, obtained from granite cutting industry. Their characterization was carriedout with the determination of physical and chemical composition by DTA, TGA, and XRD. Then they wereincorporated in the batch formulations of porcelain tiles in order to evaluate the suitability of addition of wastesin ceramic compositions. The specimens were also tested to determine the water absorption and three pointsbending flexural strength. Microstructural evaluation was carried out by scanning electron microscopy. Theresults showed that reformulated ceramic bodies had technological characteristics similar to those ofconventional granite tiles. The amount of the granite waste contribution in the laboratory and manufactory scaleswas 30 and 4-8 wt.%, respectively. Manuscript profile

These granites show a strongenrichment in some rare metal contents such as Y, Yb, U, Ta, and Sc. The petrography and geochemistry revealthat these are classified as I- type per aluminous leucogranite, P- poor (P2O5= 0.01-0.03%) and Na2O- rich(3.1-4%).The Gabbri granites show chemical features convergent to A- type granite; these are explained byextensive fractional crystallization of a P-poor, I- type granite magma. These are located in the area of withinplate granite and extensional area. The petrography and geochemistry show Gabbri granite are produced ofmelting continental crust Manuscript profile
