Introduction: Food packaging is a vital approach for ensuring food safety. Due to the high importance of food packaging, nanotechnology can improve packaging quality and consequently ensure the safety. Materials and Methods: Nanosilver particles were synthesized and starch-based nanocomposite films, chitosan with the content of 0, 250 and 500 ppm nanosilver particles were produced and their properties including mechanical properties, water vapour permeability, solubility, swelling and anti-microbial properties of the produced films were studied by measuring the diameter of the bright area in the disk permeability test. In this test, four types of bacteria including Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans were employed. The colour changes in the films after the addition of nanosilver were examined and the size of synthesized nanosilver particles was determined by using DLS. Results: The addition of nanosilver to the films increased the water vapour permeability. Tensile strength was increased and this increase in the case of chitosan films was significant whereas in the case of starch film was not significant. Elongation at break was also increased in all the films. Although the addition of nanosilver increased the solubility and swelling, this increase was not significant. Films containing nanosilver has an antimicrobial effect on all the microorganisms that were investigated (p<0.05). Conclusion: In general, the properties of the films produced by nanosilver particles were completely affected by the concentration of the used nanosilver except for water vapour permeability where this led to improvement of the properties of the films.   Manuscript profile

Nanotechnology has become one of the most promising new approaches for pest control in recent years. In our screening program, laboratory trials were conducted to determine the effectiveness of silica nanoparticles (SNP) and silver nanoparticles (AgNP) on larval stage and adults of Callosobruchus maculatus on cowpea seed. Nanoparticles of silica and silver were synthesized through a solvothermal method and different concentrations (1, 1.5, 2 and 2.5 g kg-1) of them were tested on C. maculatus. In the experiments, the LC50 value for SiO2 and Ag nanoparticles were calculated 0.68 and 2.06 g kg-1 cowpeas on adults and 1.03 and 1.00 g kg-1 on larvae, respectively. Result showed that, the both nanoparticles (silica and silver) were highly effective on adults and larvae with 100% and 83% mortality, respectively. The result also showed that SiO2 nanoparticles can be used as a valuable tool in pest management programs of C. maculatus. Manuscript profile

This study aimed to investigate the effect of drought stress and foliar application of silver nanoparticles on morphological and physiological characteristics of sunflower (Helianthus annuus. L) and split-plot in a randomized complete block design with three levels of water stress agent the main factor (I0: 60 mm evaporation from pan class a (normal irrigation), I1: 90 mm evaporation from pan class a and I2: 120 mm evaporation from pan class a) and foliar application of silver nanoparticles four levels as subplots (NS0: sprayed with water, NS1: 50 mg nano-silver, NS2: 90 ppm silver nano, NS3: 130 mg nano-silver) and three replications. respectively. The results showed that the effects of irrigation and silver nanoparticles and their interactions at the level of one and five percent of the studied traits had significant impact. The highest yield (4038.49 kg.ha), oil yield (2134.52 kg.ha) with normal irrigation treatment, 60 mm × 130 milligrams per liter of nano-silver evaporation and biological yield (11248.8 kg.ha) with normal irrigation treatment, 60 mm × 90 mm evaporation of silver nano-grams per liter respectively. The highest chlorophyll a and normal irrigation treatment of 50 mg per liter of nanosilver with (25.05 mg) was given. Stress increases the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA). The highest MDA (MDA) with (12.71 nmol g) fresh from severe stress and weight was sprayed with purified water. The lowest yield (3091.6 kg.ha) and biological yield (8787.2kg.ha) and oil yield (1326.99kg.ha) related to severe stress, 120mm × water evaporation was observed. The lowest level of MDA of normal irrigation, 60mm evaporation with (6.19nmolg.fw) and chlorophyll a to severe stress, 120mm evaporation (17.72 mg of fresh leaf weight) less the amount of support.
