        The purpose of this study was the effect of physical education and sports units 1 on the sports identity of male and female students of Azad University. For this purpose, Chezlak Sports Identity Scale (2004) in two stages of pre-test and post-test was provided to 230 undergraduate students who had taken the general units of physical education and sports 1 in the academic year of 1997-98. Correlated t-test and Wilcoxon test were used to examine intragroup changes. The mean score of sports identity of female students increased significantly (P = 0.001), while the mean score of sports identity of male students did not change significantly (P = 0.227).   The mean score of social identity subscale of female students (P = 0.001) and male students (P = 0.008) in the post-test compared to the pre-test increased significantly. The mean score of the exclusivism subscale of female students (P = 0.087) and male students (P = 0.501) in the post-test compared to the pre-test did not change significantly. In general, the general physical education unit had an effect on the sports identity of students, especially female students Universities 'general physical education units are an opportunity through which the sports role of individuals can be strengthened and the ground for promoting the internal and external components of sports identity, the ultimate goal of which is to develop students' positive attitudes toward sports and physical activity.
