Conceptive metaphor is a natural principle which is completely present in our daily lives intentionally or unintentionally. Determining a pattern which aids us a better understanding of abstract concepts is important in metaphor. Thus it is worthy to apply this conceptive tool to understand abstract meanings of contemporary poetries. The present survey studies conceptive metaphor with descriptive – analytical method emphasizing “Lakoff and Johnson” theory who are originators of the mentioned theory; then image schemata – conceptive structures – would be formed based on various experiments and are studied in two odes by Mikhail Naimy – contemporary Lebanese poet – called “Ring of Bells” and “Frozen River”. The results show that the poet has applied conceptive metaphor in various sections to help us having better understanding of abstract. He depicts many abstract concepts with place in order to bold his poetries. Manuscript profile
