Majma' al-Tavarikh, written in India in 1207 H/1792-93 AD, contains the history of the fall of safavids and a few decades after that event. Its last information entries are about the history of Iran in the early 13th century H/late 18th century AD, but it is mainly about the history of Mar'ashi sayyids family and Iran in the years coincided with the fall of the safavids up to the beginning of the eighth decade of 12th century. Mirza Muhammad Khalil, the writer of Majma' al-Tavarikh, is a member of Mar'ashi family, who emigrated from Iran to India. Therefore it should be viewed as a book written by an emigrant. In the present article Majma' al-Tavarikh has been approached from this viewpoint. This outlook provides us with two contexts, Indian and Iranian, of the book for explaining the various characteristics of it. In the previous researches, there has not been paid sufficient attention to the two-sided context of the book. As a result, some characteristics of the book such as its dual prose style and the writer of one of its important sources have not been identified. In surveying any of the kingdoms in Iran, we will find out that each of them has its own special social, political, official, and military system. In each of them, the former systems were utilized. Gradually they were accepted after some modifications. But when we study the Afsharie kingdom, we find that at a high extent, its social and official structures are perfectly emulated of the Safari’s kingdom. One of the main reasons in this regard is that the founder of this kingdom, Nader, spent about 12 years in war. So he couldn’t get enough opportunity to design a proper social system. However, Nader’s authority was just under the auspicious of his forces’ swords so, in order to provide comfort for his people and to empower his authority he attempted to collect tax from different groups of people in society. According to the position and role of Shia religion in the Safavid period and the relations of the Safavid sultans with religious scholars, scholars were appointed in various positions, sometimes these positions were rooted in the structure of the Iranian Diwan, and sometimes they were invented by the Safavids or modeled after the Ottoman governmental positions. Among these positions, we can mention chancellery, Malabashi, Sheikh al-Islam, Qazi, Qazi Asghar, Imam Juma, etc. The power of these positions in entering government affairs was related to the power of the Safavid sultans and their view of religion, as shown in At the end of the Safavid era, the power of scholars increased in political and governmental positions. In the Afshariya period, some cases; Such as the limitation of the religious and social functions of the scholars and their weak presence in the political arena, the limitation of endowment and non-endowment financial resources of the Shia scholars and finally their seclusion and migration to the neighboring lands of Iran indicate the weakness of the religious institution and the lack of involvement of the scholars in governmental and political affairs in this era. In the Zandiya period, especially in the Karim Khan period, by limiting the power of the religious scholars, an effort was made to prevent their influence and interference in politics, while maintaining social productivity.
