Importance of and Introducing Iranian Version of Gerontological Scale of Social Quality (GSSQ-97, 2023) in Aging Studies

Abstract :

Objective: Iran, alike under-developing countries was encountered to new phenomena called aging. Health promotion and reinforcing social situation of older adults is a matter. Having a toolkit and operational guideline to measurement of this situation is necessary for policy makers on healthy aging. Method: The paper is a review study by evaluating documents and articles published in the conceptual framework since 2007-2023 which to design the Iranian older adults’ living standards index. Discussion: Theoretical framework of social quality was demonstrated by EFSQ (version 2001) in four main domains i.e. social inclusion, social empowerment, social cohesion, and socio-economic security. The study theoretically has constructed the Gerontological scale of social quality in 97-items (GSSQ-97, 2023) upon Iranian, the world literature, and EFSQ. Conclusion: The instrument was composed according to Iranian and similar societies. The operational and methodological assessment of the scale could be the next step. Even though data availability is the main challenge in a society like Iran.
