Abstract :
The purpose of this study is to analyze and evaluate the social components of encyclopedia in Iran and its case study in the encyclopedia of the Islamic world. In the present research, the combined method (qualitative and quantitative) is used; In the qualitative section, by analyzing the content of related texts, effective social factors were collected in the encyclopedia compilation and in the quantitative section, the components were evaluated, evaluated and prioritized based on the opinions of 27 experts in the field of encyclopedia. The data analysis tool in the qualitative part is the software of "Max. Q.D.A" and in the quantitative part is the "SPSS" software. The findings of the study led to the presentation of 18 social components in the production of encyclopedias that were evaluated and prioritized based on the opinions of experts. Attention to the subject of social sciences (especially the social history of Muslims) and its application in the production of the encyclopedia of the Islamic world led to the production of new articles on this subject so that 1506 entries equivalent to 6% of the entries of the encyclopedia of the Islamic world belong to this topic, so that these entries were among the top 8 search results of the audience. The results of the research indicate that in general, the emergence of encyclopedias indicates the supply and demand of science in society, which ultimately leads to scientific-cultural developments. The existence of research systems in society can pave the way for the production of encyclopedias. Ideological factors, critical encounters with previous studies, differences in views and approaches in society are among the social factors influencing the production of encyclopedias. In the last century, the emergence of specializations and the increase of society's curiosity about new phenomena have led to the emergence of encyclopedias.
