Social participation and factors affecting it: A Study in the counties of Javanroud and Ravansar

Abstract :
This research aimed to investigate social participation and the factors affecting it in the less developed counties of Javanroud and Ravansar of Kermanshah province. The study's theoretical framework is derived from the opinions of experts from the old modernization school and social psychologists. The research method is a (quantitative) survey, and a questionnaire was used to collect data. The statistical population of this research is all citizens over 18 years of age living in the counties of Javanroud and Ravansar. The sample size of this research was 384 people who were selected by a multi-stage cluster sampling method. Pearson's correlation coefficient and multivariate regression were used to analyze the data. The research findings indicate the average level of social participation in the counties of Javanroud and Ravansar, and there is a significant relationship between the independent variables (dependence on the government and limited good) and the dependent variable (social participation). The regression analysis results showed that the multiple correlation coefficient was 0.260 and the independent variables explained 6.3% of the changes in the dependent variable. Among the factors affecting social participation, only the dependency on the government variable had an effect. The results showed that culture, beliefs, and social values have not changed much in the less developed areas studied. Society has remained traditional, and tradition and small elements of peasant culture strengthen social participation. The government and development experts must rely on these elements so that people, through their social participation, can achieve specific and predetermined goals and programs.
