Explaining the influential components of architectural form on reducing stress in therapeutic environments based on patients' experiences (Scope of analysis: Imam Reza Hospital, Birjand) 1

Abstract :
T This research examines the impact of physical and aesthetic factors in the hospital environment on stress levels of male and female patients after surgery at Imam Reza Hospital in Birjand. The goal is to enhance the quality of therapeutic environments and reduce stress in patients. This study adopts a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods, with a descriptive-analytical framework based on data collection through questionnaires.The questionnaire (researcher-made) was designed and structured based on the theoretical foundations of the research and completed by patients after their surgeries. Initially, the reliability of the questionnaire was determined using Cronbach's alpha method, yielding a coefficient of 0.837, indicating acceptable reliability. The sample size was determined to be 289 individuals using Cochran's formula. The statistical population consisted of 148 women and 141 men selected from the general surgery department over six months from patients who were candidates for surgery.Responses were entered into the SMART PLS software, and statistical data analysis was conducted using structural equation modeling. According to the findings of this research, both mental and physical components significantly influence the reduction of patients' stress. These components refer to two essential aspects of design and spatial experience. The physical component includes factors such as natural light, space scale, materials used, building façade design, and spatial layout, while the mental component relates to individuals' experiences, emotions, and perceptions in encountering architectural spaces.
