Abstract :
Introduction: Resilience is one of the most important psychological competencies in athletes, enabling them to perform optimally under critical conditions and competitive pressures. The present study was conducted to examine the role of self-control, integrative self-knowledge, and self-compassion in predicting athletes’ resilience. Methods: This research was fundamental in nature and employed a quantitative approach with a descriptive-correlational design. The statistical population consisted of student-athletes from universities in Tehran during the academic year 2024–2025. Using convenience sampling, 180 participants (110 women and 70 men) were selected. Data were collected through standardized questionnaires on resilience, self-control, integrative self-knowledge, and self-compassion. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression. Results: The results indicated that resilience was positively and significantly correlated with self-control, integrative self-knowledge, and self-compassion. Regression analysis further revealed that these three constructs accounted for 87% of the variance in athletes’ resilience. Among the predictors, self-control demonstrated the highest predictive power. Conclusion: he findings suggest that athletes’ resilience is substantially influenced by their capacity for self-control, coherence in self-knowledge, and levels of self-compassion. Accordingly, strengthening these psychological constructs may serve as an effective component of educational and psychological interventions aimed at enhancing resilience and athletic success.
