Abstract :

Analytical Examination of Aristotle's Educational Moral Foundations in the Nicomachean Ethics

Abstract: Aristotle, in addition to philosophy and logic, has also paid attention to the subject of ethics. The ethics endorsed by Aristotle is virtue-based, a virtue that should be sought at the midpoint, avoiding excess and deficiency. The main question of this study is whether the ethical educational foundations proposed by Aristotle are free of flaws and can be considered a complete and recommendable moral model. For this purpose, Aristotle's accepted principles from the Nicomachean Ethics have been extracted and evaluated using content analysis methods. The findings of this research indicate that criticisms of Aristotle include: lack of attention to the origin and return, incomplete anthropology, failure to assist and guide his audience in identifying the midpoint which is virtue, and lack of providing methods and strategies to achieve virtues. Therefore, Aristotelian ethics is neither without flaws nor completely aligned with Islamic ethics.
