Abstract :

The discussion of the names and attributes of God is one of the important philosophical and theological issues in the thought of Western philosophers and Islamic theologians, and one of the attributes that has long occupied the minds of these thinkers is the attribute of God's will and human will. Now, by analyzing the theological thought of Nicolas Malebranche (a Cartesian philosopher) and Imam Fakhr al-Razi (an Ash'arite theologian), a certain affinity is found, such that occasionalism and the theory of acquisition, which is the negation of the causal relationship and the substitution of God's will and action for it, can be considered as important achievements of these two philosophical and theological schools. This article intends to present this affinity through a library method, an analytical and descriptive method, and by adopting the philosophical and theological structure of Nicolas Malebranche and Imam Fakhr Razi with areas such as causality, the relationship between soul and body, human knowledge, and human agency, which are suitable fields for the study of relativity.
