Abstract :
This study aims to provide a comparative analysis of the signs of reappearance in Islamic narrations and to examine their relation to contemporary Takfiri movements, with a particular emphasis on Qur’anic foundations. Throughout Islamic history, the belief in the awaited savior has been a shared conviction among Muslims and has been widely reflected in both Shia and Sunni narrations. In recent decades, Takfiri groups have attempted to exploit eschatological traditions, interpreting them selectively and superficially to legitimize their violent actions.
The research adopts a qualitative methodology, relying on content analysis of Qur’anic texts and prophetic traditions. Primary sources such as the Four Books of Shia, the Six Canonical Books of Sunni hadith, as well as authoritative Qur’anic commentaries, were examined comparatively. Furthermore, contemporary academic studies on Takfiri movements and eschatological discourse were employed to strengthen the analytical framework.
Findings indicate that most narrations regarding the signs of reappearance can be evaluated and authenticated through Qur’anic criteria, while Takfiri interpretations are largely based on misreadings and ideological distortions. In contrast, genuine Qur’anic and narrational interpretations emphasize patience, pursuit of justice, unity of the Muslim community, and rejection of violence.
The conclusion highlights that a critical and comparative rereading of eschatological narrations, grounded in the Qur’an, can clarify the authentic Mahdist discourse, prevent extremist misuses, and foster Islamic unity against Takfiri movements.
