The Relationship of Family function with Social anxiety with Mediating Role of Shyness and Difficulty of Emotional Regulation

Abstract :
Abstract Anxiety disorders are among the most common disorders in youth and adolescence “social anxiety” is one of the most important of these disorders. The purpose of this research was to study the mediating role of Shyness and Difficulty of Emotional Regulation as related to Family function and Social anxiety. The population of this descriptive – correlation study included all female high school students of Shahrekord. Multistage cluster sampling was used to select 500 students from the first grade of high schools in Shahrekord. Family Function Scale (FAD), Emotion Regulation Scale (RES), Social Anxiety Scale (SPIN) and Shyness Scale, were used to measure the variables. The hypothetical model was tested by AMOS software. The findings indicated that the proposed model fitted the data. Results showed that path Family function to Shyness(P<0/01), Family function to Difficulty of Emotional Regulation (P<0/01) , Family function to Social Anxiety (P<0/01) , Shyness to Social Anxiety(P<0/01), and Difficulty of Emotional Regulation to Social Anxiety (P<0/01) was significant. With regard to the indirect effects of Family function on Social anxiety through Shyness and Difficulty of Emotional Regulation, become clear Shyness and Difficulty of Emotional Regulation multiplier effect of Family function on Social anxiety is significant(P<0/01). According to the results, it can be concluded that Shyness and Difficulty of Emotional Regulation as a mediator in the relationship between Family function and Social anxiety. Based on the results it could be concluded that family function decrease social anxiety, whereas shyness and Difficulty of Emotional Regulation increase social anxiety.
