The relationship between thinking styles and basic self-determination needs with implicit beliefs of intelligence in students

Abstract :
The purpose of this research is to investigate the relationship between thinking styles and basic needs of self-determination with implicit beliefs of intelligence in the statistical population of undergraduate female students of Islamic Azad University, Central Tehran branch in the academic year of 1994-1995 and in a sample of 150 people, which was selected by sampling method. Multistage cluster randomization was selected, implemented. By using three standard questionnaires of Sternberg-Wagner thinking styles (1992), the basic needs of self-determination by Gary Deci and Ryan (1985), and the implicit beliefs of Hoshi Hong et al. (1999) to collect the necessary information. Data using SPSS software, at the descriptive level of frequency indicators, central tendency, dispersion and graph; and at the inferential level, from Pearson's correlation coefficient and multivariate regression analysis, observing its basic assumptions; has been analyzed. The findings show that: 1- There is a relationship between the legislator's thinking style and the implicit beliefs of intelligence. 2- There is no relationship between executive thinking style and implicit beliefs of intelligence. 3- There is a relationship between judicial thinking style and implicit beliefs of intelligence. 4- There is a relationship between the perception of autonomy and the implicit beliefs of intelligence. 5- There is a relationship between the perception of competence and the implicit beliefs of intelligence. 6- There is a relationship between perception of communication and implicit beliefs of intelligence. 7- In the combination of all the variables, the largest contribution belongs to the perception of autonomy, followed by judicial thinking style, and other variables had no contribution in predicting the implicit beliefs of intelligence.
