The effect of personality type on health behaviors in nursing and midwifery students

Abstract :
Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between personality type and health behaviors. Methods: The present study is a descriptive correlational study. The statistical population of this study consists of all nursing and midwifery students in the two units of Islamic Azad University of Chalous and Varamin - Pishva. The statistical sample consists of 279 students who were randomly selected from the nursing and midwifery faculties of the two university units. The data of this study were collected through a questionnaire, including "Health Behavior Determination Questionnaire" and "Personality Type Questionnaire". Data were analyzed using SPSS17 and the relationship between data was obtained through simple regression analysis. Results: There was a statistically significant correlation between all personality type tendencies and health behaviors. As competition increases, health behaviors increase and with increasing hostility and anger, as well as impatience and restlessness, health behaviors decrease. The results showed that performing health behaviors related to sleep and rest are directly related to competition and high work commitment and are inversely related to hostility and anger as well as impatience and restlessness, as well as performing individual health behaviors with competition. Direct relationship and high work commitment, hostility and anger as well as impatience and restlessness are inversely related. Finally, performing health behaviors related to nutrition with competition and high work commitment are directly related to hostility and anger as well as impatience and impatience. They are supposed to have an inverse relationship. Conclusion: A person's personality type has a significant relationship with health behaviors.
