Prediction of Internet Addiction and Social Anxiety based of Parenting Styles in Students

Abstract :
Background: parenting styles is one of the most important factors in shaping children's behavior and personality, the purpose of this study was to predict Internet addiction and social anxiety on Parenting Styles. Materials and Methods: This study was correlational. For this purpose, the number of 400 schools students in Arak was selected using multi-stage cluster sampling. They all questionnaires Internet addiction Yang (IAT), Social Anxiety Scale (SAS-A) and Bamrynd Parenting Styles Questionnaire completed. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation and multiple regressions. Results: Pearson correlation showed authoritarian parenting Styles and permissiveness with Internet addiction and social anxiety in order (r =0.120 and, r = 0.210) and (r =0.576 and, r =0.517) had a positive and significant relationship. The authoritative style with Internet addiction and social anxiety in order (r= -0.291 and r= -0.263) is negative relationship and significant. In addition, multiple regression analysis showed that the parenting styles were predicted Internet addiction and social anxiety, and they in order 39 and 35 percent of the variance explained. Conclusion: According to the results, we can use the proper educational methods and make planning applications in the treatment of Internet addiction and improved positive relationships with others
