A comparison of Razi University faculty members’ information needs with the acquisition of journals in its central library based on citation analysis of their publications in ISI and SCOPUS (1990-2007)

Abstract :
This research surveys the acquisition of journals in central library of Razi University of Kermanshah considering how much these journals have been utilized by faculty members of the university in order to publish papers indexed in ISI and Scopus by making use of citation analysis for the references of the papers. The research population includes 1728 papers and 46448 references published by the faculties of the University in ISI and Scopus and the journal collection in its central library. The bibliometric method is applied to do the study. Needed data were extracted from ISI and SCOPUS during 1990 to 2007. The non-parametric binominal test indicates that 43% of information needs of the faculty members of the university have been provided by the journals available within acquisitions of the university central library; hence 50% of journal acquisitions in the central library have found to be matched with the information needs of faculty members.
