The quality of Library and Information Science education in Iran with emphasis on reference services

Abstract :

Objective: Today the world is going rapidly toward getting digitized. Actually this hasinfluenced various sciences, and Library and information sciences, too.. Traditional libraries alsoneed to offer virtual reference services and new information services. This article discuses thequality and method of librarianship education at universities of Iran.Methodology: Content analysis is used to analyze instructional texts and comparison of libraryscience departments syllabuses, the next step has been to investigate the information andreference service skills and competencies of librarians of various types of libraries throughsurvey method and questionnaire.Conclusion: The comparison of the results of the investigating and content analyzing of thelibrary science syllabuses in universities of Iran and the survey of librarians show that theinstructional texts being used for teaching information and reference services are not up-to-dateand efficient.
