Abstract :
The purpose of this research was to compare the effectiveness of Intensive Short-term Dynamic Psychotherapy with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy on self-efficacy in individuals with depression. The research method was semi-experimental with a pre-test and post-test design with control and follow-up groups. The population of the research was people aged 18 to 50 with depression in psychological centres in Tehran in the spring and summer of 2022. 45 people with a therapist's diagnosis and a score of 14 or higher in the Beck questionnaire were selected and randomly assigned to 3 groups of 15 people. The first group received ISTDP and the second group received CBT, during 12 sessions. After two months of treatment, all groups responded to Scherer's self-efficacy questionnaire. Covariance analysis showed that both methods are effective in increasing self-efficacy in depression. An effect size of 0.73 for ISTDP compared to an effect size of 0.69 for CBT indicates greater effectiveness of ISTDP in improving self-efficacy.
