The Effectiveness of Interpersonal Relationship Enrichment Training on Interpersonal Reactivity and Social-adaptive Performance of Students with Oppositional Defiant Disorder Syndrome

Abstract :

Background and purpose: This research was conducted with the aim of the effectiveness of interpersonal relationship enrichment training on interpersonal reactivity and social-adaptive performance of students with oppositional defiant disorder syndrome.

Method: The research method was semi-experimental with a pre-test-post-test design and with two experimental and control groups. The statistical population of the research was 10-12-year-old male students with confrontational disobedience syndrome in Shahrood schools in the academic year 2023-2024. A number of 30 students with confrontational disobedience syndrome were selected by available sampling method and randomly assigned to two control and experimental groups (15 people in each group). The experimental group received interpersonal relationship enrichment training in 8 60-minute sessions, and the control group did not receive any intervention until the end of the study. The research tools were the questionnaires of children's disobedience disorder (Homersen et al., 2006), interpersonal reactivity of Davis (1983), and social-adaptive functioning of Price et al. (2002). Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 22 and univariate analysis of covariance at a significance level of 0.05.

Findings: The findings showed that interpersonal relationship enrichment training is effective on interpersonal reactivity and social-adaptive performance of students with oppositional defiant disorder symptoms (p<0.05).

Conclusion: based on this, it can be concluded that the training of enriching interpersonal relationships provides effective and beneficial strategies for improving interpersonal reactivity and social-adaptive functioning, provided to child and adolescent psychotherapy centers
