Elucidating the Principle of Truth in Plato and Bach: A Comparative Analytical Study of Jonathan’s Story and the Allegory of the Cave

Abstract :

In philosophical thoughts and mystical schools, the symbolic expression of the pursuit of truth and epistemology has played a significant and influential role and has been highly regarded. This study aims to address the shared aspects and distinctions between Richard Bach’s Jonathan Livingston Seagull and Plato’s allegory of the cave in Book Seven of The Republic, highlighting that the importance of epistemology in philosophical and modern Western mystical thought encompasses both unified and distinctive elements. In this comparison, besides the commonalities and differences, the key points of the intellectual development of Bach and Plato and their perspectives on this matter are also discussed. Therefore, through a descriptive-analytical approach, this research seeks to clarify the principle of truth in the philosophical systems of both Plato and Bach by examining their respective intellectual frameworks. In fact, this study not only elucidates the intellectual roots of these two mystical-modern Western and ancient Greek philosophical systems but also expands the understanding and interpretation of these human intellectual foundations, thereby broadening the scope of those familiar with this discourse.
