The process of formation of the Median government based on Neo-Assyrian inscriptions in the ninth and eighth centuries BC

Abstract :
The most challenging research in the history of ancient Iran relates to the study of the Median period and its roots. Historians are inevitably forced to rely on indirect contemporary sources and reports, often from enemies, which are mostly limited to Neo-Assyrian inscriptions. The trading needs of the peoples of the East and West during that time were met through the Great Khorasan Road, and this was the main reason for the Assyrians' invasions to dominate the trade routes. In recent years, some researchers have questioned the existence of the ruling tribes of the Medes. This research, by re-examining the Assyrian inscriptions, aims to investigate the presence and extent of the Medes and the process of forming their government during these two centuries. A thorough examination of these sources, given the importance of the topic and to shed light on historical knowledge in this period, necessitates an exploration of the available sources from various angles, so as to evaluate the Medes' government and their evolutionary process as the founders of the Iranian empire. thereby enhancing the understanding of this ambiguous period in Median history. Due to the nature of the data mentioned, the research method in this article is descriptive and analytical, relying on library methods for information gathering.
