A Survey on the Impact of Satellite TV Programs on the Popularity of Cosmetic Surgery Among Men

Abstract :
Introduction: Nowadays, people get familiar, grow up and affected by media from their birth. The satellite TV programs have various tools in the field of programming and can provide pre-determined and purposeful concepts. The impact of the satellite TV programs on men cosmetic surgery is of a great importance due to the growing tendency to cosmetic surgery in men. Research method: This article is a cross-sectional study which includes men and women who referred to cosmetic surgery clinics in four regions of Tehran in 1394. A sample with 546 people was selected by random sampling method and simple two-step classification. The data collection tool was a questionnaire whose validity and reliability were approved. Findings: Based on the research, the public believe that satellite TV programs are effective on men cosmetic surgery. There are not significant differences among various groups of education, age, marital status and income levels and the impact of satellite TV programs on men cosmetic surgery, but there is a significant difference between the views of people with the experience of cosmetic surgery and others with no such experiance in the society. Result: Having a better feeling with 71.8% was the most significant reason for having cosmetic surgery. Additionally, 32.1% believed that satellite programs have direct effect on their tendenecy towards such surgeries, and 24.5% believed in the relative impact of these programs. In total, 56.6% of the participants believed that satellite progrmas can have impact on men’s tendency toward cosmetic surgeries.
