Abstract :
Tourism is one of the key factors of economic development that can play an important role in sustainable development by diversifying economic activities, creating jobs, and increasing income. Rural tourism, by utilizing the natural, agricultural, and cultural resources of rural areas, has a significant capacity for socio-economic development. However, this capacity has not been used optimally in Iran. Studies show that rural tourism can provide new opportunities for sustainable development of deprived areas by creating attractions such as natural landscapes, historical and cultural monuments, and welfare services. In particular, areas that are rich in a combination of natural, agricultural, and cultural attractions are susceptible to tourism development. This research focuses on the feasibility of developing rural tourism in the eastern and western Dehdasht rural districts of Kohgiluyeh county. Using the spatial analysis method and the Cornell model in the GIS environment, the natural, agricultural, historical, and service criteria and sub-criteria were examined and the villages were classified into three groups based on the level of enjoyment of these criteria into poor, average, and relatively well-off. The results showed that most villages are in an average situation. This study can be a guide for planners and investors in identifying and prioritizing areas that are suitable for rural tourism. The development of these areas can help improve the livelihoods and motivation of the population in deprived villages and move towards sustainable development goals.
