Abstract :
The present study within the mood coordination hypothesis framework was conducted with the aim of analyzing the effect of mood induction on recall memory of normal female participants. The sample of the study included was 30 female students (10 person for control group, and two 10-person groups for experimental groups) from Tabriz Institute of Technology. After research sample selection and induction of mood with showing 10-minute movies of happy and sad themes to two experimental groups, terms of computer based task of memory were presented to each of the three groups. Then, autobiographical memory task and computer based memory test were carried out by the groups. One-way variance analysis and Tukey’s post-hoc test were used in order to analyze the results of the study. The results indicated that there was a significant difference between the groups in recalling negative memories (F=120.41), positive memories (F=78.57), negative words (F=320.33), and positive words (F=448.29). Tukey’s post-hoc test was used to compare the groups, which indicated that positive words and memories were recalled more in positive mood group and negative words and memories in negative mood group. Also, the control group did better in recalling positive words and memories than negative mood group and recalling negative words and memories in normal group was more than positive mood group (p<0.001). The results of the study support the mood coordination hypothesis. It means that, the dominant mood can facilitate the recall of memories and words (memory). In order to clarify the issue of “priority-delay affection”, it was revealed that the recall memory can be changed by mood manipulation.
