An Investigation of the Self Efficacy and optimism in High School Female Students and Their Relationship with Mother’s Parenting Style

Abstract :
The aim of the present research was to examine the rate of self efficacy and optimism of high school Female students and their relationship with mothers parenting style. The design of the study was descriptive and correlation one. The population of the study included all high school female student (15-16) year and their mothers in Tehran. The sample consisted of 107 mothers and 107 girls who had been selected through random clustering method. The instruments in this study were Parenting Style questionnaires by Bamrind (1972), Life Orientation questionnaires (1985), and self efficacy questionnaires by scherer and et al. The research data were analysed by using SPSS software through the correlation analysis and multi variation regression.The finidings indicated a meaningful relationship between the mother’s authoritative parenting style and their daughter’s self efficacy. It was also shown that there is a negative relationship between the mother’s authoritative parenting style and their daughter’s optimism. The results of the regression analysis showed that the self efficacy and optimism of the children can be predicted through the parenting styles of the parents. Based on these results, teaching authoritative parenting style to parents can cause an efficacy in children as well.
