Abstract :
Drought is an atmospheric phenomenon. In this research, using SPI index and other criteria derived from it, such as the longest drought period, number of months of drought and magnitude (DM), first long-term drought conditions in Shushtar region and then Investigate the impact of drought on groundwater resources based on SPI index. Regarding the impact of drought on groundwater resources, while examining the monthly fluctuations of SPI and based on available statistical information, the correlation coefficient between the two parameters was calculated. The results of these studies showed that all stations in the study area were facing drought. Also, among the criteria considered in the SPI index, the criterion of total drought magnitude (DM) of Shushtar, Abganji and Arab Hassan stations were (90.57, 82.98, 83.75), respectively, and the number of months of drought were (89, 123, 111) that the result was a more appropriate criterion to show the drought situation in the region. Also, by examining the SDI index in relation to the impact of drought on groundwater resources, it was found that the correlation coefficient in relation to the impact of drought on groundwater resources, Shushtar, Abganji and Arab Hassan stations were (0.008, 0.091, -0.255), respectively. Droughts have affected groundwater levels. According to the obtained statistical results, the correlation coefficient between the depth of groundwater and the value of SPI and SDI indicates the lack of high correlation and the weakness of this relationship.
