Abstract :
In recent years, the use of natural compounds and nanotechnology in the treatment of fungal infections has attracted attention. In this study, the effect of propolis nanoemulsion compared to 2% ketoconazole cream on the treatment of experimental dermatophytosis caused by Microsporum canis in guinea pigs was investigated. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was determined using the broth dilution method. In the in vivo study, 18 infected guinea pigs were randomly divided into three groups and treated with propolis nanoemulsion, 2% ketoconazole cream, and a negative control. The healing process was evaluated through clinical observation and fungal culture. The results showed that propolis nanoemulsion had a significant effect in reducing the severity of skin lesions and inhibiting fungal growth. Statistical comparison between the treatment groups showed a significant difference in favor of the propolis nanoemulsion compared to ketoconazole (p<0.05). The findings of this study indicate that propolis nanoemulsion can be used as an effective and alternative treatment option for dermatophytosis.
