The role of mega-projects in the social sustainability of cities (case study: Shandiz city)

Abstract :
The purpose of this study is to explain the status of social sustainability in the urban environment in which the megaproject is constructed, because the research indicates that the superprojects have created social damages by local community, and to address this situation, special attention should be paid to the concept of social sustainability that expresses the importance of the environment and the community of the megaproject. The study environment is Shandiz city where two megaprojects have been constructed. The research questions are: What is Shandi's social sustainability status? And what has changed in comparison to previous years? The hypothesis of the research is that Shandiz social sustainability is in an acceptable condition during the period of the research (2020-2021) and the previous years have decreased. The research is quantitative and applied and has been carried out using a researcher-made questionnaire. The statistical population of this study is citizens more than 18 years old resident of Shandiz that based on Cochran, 372 people have been determined. Questionnaires were distributed by cluster random sampling and analyzed by SPSS and EQS software. The results of this study indicate that social sustainability in Shandiz city is higher than average but it has decreased sharply compared to previous years and has decreased from 68 to 54. Among the indicators of social sustainability, Shandiz citizens have chosen quality of life as the most important indicator. Heterogeneous population increase due to migration to maskane-mehr and changes in the bio-economy caused by the phenomenon project are the most important factors affecting the reduction of social sustainability.
