Abstract :
Eckhart, sometimes places women in a position inferior to men, while at other times he defines an equal status for both. He has sought to explain the emergence of existence and the evolution of the soul using the principle of duality and the union of masculine and feminine elements. This article aims to provide evidence for the superiority of his egalitarian perspective in gender discussions and to demonstrate the equal spiritual potential of both genders throughout spiritual stages by elucidating the principle of duality in Eckhart's ontology. Considering Eckhart's thoughts on the emergence of existence and the return of the soul to the One reveals that the manifestation of the Word and indeed all existence from the Father, as well as the soul's return to the One, results from the union of the two principles of agent and patient. Femininity and masculinity should not be regarded as fixed principles that allow for the superiority of one over the other; rather, depending on their position within different levels of existence, these two principles can interchange their roles. Such a perspective helps us to consider femininity and masculinity in interaction with one another in the human realm
