Abstract :

The present study aimed to investigate the psychometric properties of the Persian version of the Grief Rumination Questionnaire (GRQ) in an Iranian population. The research sample consisted of 250 individuals, including 225 participants who had experienced the loss of a loved one within the past year, and 25 individuals from the general (non-bereaved) population. The instruments utilized in this study included the original English version of the GRQ, the Prolonged Grief Scale, and the Ruminative Response Scale. Data analyses were conducted using AMOS 24 and SPSS 26. The results indicated that the Persian version of the GRQ demonstrated high internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.904). Both the first-order and hierarchical second-order factor structures showed good model fit, confirming the construct validity of the instrument. The Persian GRQ showed significant correlations with the Ruminative Response Scale (r = 0.529) and the Prolonged Grief Scale (r = 0.757), supporting its convergent validity. Additionally, the questionnaire successfully distinguished between the bereaved and non-bereaved groups. The content validity ratio was 0.75 and the content validity index was 0.90. Overall, the findings suggest that the Persian version of the GRQ is a valid and reliable instrument for assessing grief-related rumination in Iranian bereaved populations.
