Assessment of marital satisfaction based on resilience and self-differentiation

Abstract :

Aim: The marriage and marital relation satisfaction play an important role in the normal marital relationships. Important factors which have been noted and have a great impact on marital life are resilience and self-differentiation. This study aims to predict marital satisfaction in married women based on resilience and self-differentiation. The methodology of study is descriptive correlational type, and its statistic population includes all women who refereed to Sorosh, Sajad, Zaeem and Tarannom Zendegi counseling centers in the fall of 2014 in Tehran. 200 women who had inclusion criteria to refer to this center selected randomly using sampling techniques and answered to Asode, Khalili and Lavasani Marital Satisfaction Inventory (2010), Skowron & Schmitt Differentiation of Self Inventory (2003) and Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (2003). Multiple regression is applied to analyze the data. Results: The results showed that resilience (β=0.320, P<0.05) and self-differentiation (β=0.092, P<0.05) are the predictors of marital satisfaction.  Conclusion: Resilience and self-differentiation are important personal factors that can affect marital satisfaction in women. So, this may cause women to involve in lower physical and mental health and explain gender differences in this domain. However, more studies are essential to validate these results.
