Abstract :

Sana'i is one of the Sufi poets who, through the use of allegory, presents profound Sufi themes in a simple and eloquent language. In fact, allegory is one of the important literary genres that Sufi poets have shown a particular affinity for. The value and capabilities of allegory lie in the expression of one or more Sufi or ethical concepts. Sana'i often conveys allegorical discussions through various tales and allegories, and it is this importance and capability of allegory that allows it to encompass the expression of one or more sublime and Sufi or ethical concepts, which is why poets have cast them in the form of a mathnawi (a rhymed couplet poem). The allegory of the Geber and the bird is one of the tales in which Sana'i, in addition to storytelling, also focuses on ethical and educational concepts. The garden of Sanayi is recognized as the first mystical didactic poem that contains numerous allegories replete with moral lessons and advice. It is better to find a way into the heart of the beloved through any means, and this is why our mystic poets have cleverly utilized allegory to gain access to the hearts of their audience and approach their educational objectives. Fundamentally, the human nature has an inherent affinity and compatibility with allegory and storytelling.
