Abstract :
Investigating ISIL Activity in Cyberspace and its Threats to Iran's National Security Abstract The Middle East has always been involved in many conflicts and, due to its cultural and ethnic diversity, is the ground for the emergence of terrorist currents. Meanwhile, the US invasion of Iraq in 2003 created the groundwork for the emergence of terrorism, which ISIL is an example of it. The ISIL, Takfiri- terrorist group exploits the new emerging communications media to achieve its goals well and skillfully. This article seeks to analyze ISIS activity in cyberspace to understand how much and how this terrorist group works in cyberspace? And what are the threats of this group activity to the national security of the Islamic Republic of Iran? The findings of the present study, which have been conducted through using a descriptive-analytic method, shows that ISIL has the most use of cyberspace and social networks in comparison to other terrorist groups, and is active in this regard. In mean time, ISIL activity in cyberspace, which is more through social networking, can be had threats such as recruiting from Iranian religious minorities, creating differences between Shiites and Sunnis, creating fears among people, and so on.
