Spawning season and reproduction of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) in Golestan province shores

Abstract :

              Spawning season, reproduction procedure, and ovary development processes of common carp determined through microscopic observations in this study. Sample of common carp were collected with in nine months (2005-2006) in Golestan province shores. Spawning season of common carp fishes gradually increases in March but slowly decreases from May and maximum amount of GSI and HIS observed in April and May respectively. Oocyte diameter ranging from 0.7 to 105 mm, absolute fecundity average of 14302.8 and relative fecundity average of 135600 were determined. Female sex ratio predominated male sex ratio. While 50 percent of male and female fishes were maturated, their lengths were 2910316mm respectively.
