Strategies to Initiate and Improve Public Participation in Education

Abstract :
The purpose of the study was to identify the strategies to increase the public participation in education by using survey method. The population of the study included 927 school managers, 884 staffs of ministry of education in Semnan province, and 153126 students. According to Morgan sampling table, 269 managers, 265 staffs, and 192 (384/2) students’ parents were actually selected. The research instrument was a researcher-made questionnaire which consisted of 48 items in Likert scale. The validity of the instrument was examined by 20 experts, and its reliability was calculated by Cronbach Alpha method to be 0.72. The results of the study showed that the most important strategies to improve public participation in education can be listed in six areas. These areas include teaching, staffs’ affaires, students’ affaires, financial problems, school-society relationship, facilities and equipment.
