The Relationship between Emotional Intelligence, Mental Health, and the Job Burnout among High School Teachers, Hospital Nurses, and the Water and Power Company Personnel in Behbahan

Abstract :
The present research has been conducted to study the relationship between emotional intelligence, mental health and job burnout among high school teachers, hospital nurses and the water and power personnel and also to investigate the underlying constructs of the Maslach Burnout Inventory. 400 employees of the above-mentioned positions were randomly selected. The Bar-On Emotional Quotient Inventory (1980), Goldberg’s General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28) and Maslach-Jackson (1981) Burnout Inventory were administered. The findings of the Tukey and Scheffe tests showed that there are meaningful difference between the hospital nurses and the water and power personnel’s job burnout. The results of the factor analysis related to the principal variable showed that the Maslach-Jackson (1981) Burnout Inventory consists of five constructs including, emotional exhaustion, job conflict, emotional satisfaction, depersonalization, and loss of personal accomplishment.
